Family owned and operated Pumpernick ‘N Pastry Shoppes is pleased to announce the reopening of their Elma store in the Elma Village Plaza on Bowen Road. Pumpernick ‘N Pastry has been serving the public since 1974 and the Elma store is their fourth convenient location along with Clinton Street in the city, Southgate Plaza and the Big Lots Plaza on South Park in Hamburg. The Linde family has been in the bakery business since 1940 when William Wierzbowski opened a wholesale bakery on Sycamore Street in Buffalo. The bakery was run by three families. When William started thinking about retirement, the children purchased Haas Bakery on North Ogden Street. When the Linde family’s children showed an interest in the business, Marvin Linde purchased the Pumpernick ‘N Pastry Shoppe on William Street. A few years later Marvin purchased a building at 2059 Clinton Street and moved the manufacturing plant here. Today, the next generation of Linde bakers are involved with the bakery with Marvin’s daughter, Suzanne Linde, taking over as owner and manager upon her father’s death last December. The bakery is very well known in Western New York and provides a quality product at an affordable price and still uses the same scratch formulas with no preservatives that were used in 1940.
